As we all know, many factors will affect the efficiency / capacity of distillation and concentration, such as


-Heating temperature.                                   -Vacuum.
-Cooling temperature.                                   -Rotary speed.
-Cooling surface & structure.                        -Evaporating flask.


Today let's talk about the vacuum factor, how to improve the efficiency of distillation & concentration through vacuum controller

The vacuum controller is commonly used to display, adjust and control the vacuum system in the laboratory. Usually together with the vacuum pump to form a vacuum control system of rotary evaporator.


1.In the process of some synthetic experiments, distillation under reduced pressure, the vacuum is controlled step by step then the reagent is extracted step by step.


2.Effectively reduce the probability of explosive boiling ( due to vacuum not matches reagents, usually too high).


3.Reasonable setting of vacuum can improve the receiving efficiency of evaporation solvent.


4.Protect the vacuum pump from corrosion, avoid some reagents being pumped into the vacuum pump, especially for the concentration of volatile reagents and low-boiling reagents, but also protect the environment.


5.Increase the life of the vacuum pump, through automatically control the vacuum pump to start / stop, avoid the extra work of the vacuum pump.


6.Inert gas displacement to protect the material from oxidation and pollution.

Example: to evaporate water at a vacuum of 40mbar/hPa.


The boiling point is 100℃ at 1 atm (1013mbar / 760mmHg).


The boiling point is 29℃ at 40 mbar.


Then, the suitable condition of the effective distilling as


Cooling temperature: 29℃ - ( 15~20 ℃) = 9~14℃


Heating temperature: 29℃ + (10~40℃) = 39~69℃
